Today’s Gospel Luke 11:1-4
Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished,
one of his disciples said to him,
“Lord, teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples.”
He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Father, hallowed be your name,
your Kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread
and forgive us our sins
for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,
and do not subject us to the final test.”
Today’s Gospel Reflection
Today’s Gospel from Luke 11:1-4 invites us into the intimate moment when Jesus’ disciples, witnessing His deep communion with the Father, humbly ask, ‘Lord, teach us to pray.’ Inspired by John the Baptist’s example, they seek guidance in drawing near to God. Jesus responds with the profound gift of the Lord’s Prayer, a model of simplicity, reverence, and trust.
This prayer begins with adoration: ‘Father, hallowed be your name,’ acknowledging God’s holiness and our childlike relationship with Him. It petitions for His Kingdom to come, aligning our desires with divine will. We ask for ‘our daily bread,’ recognizing our dependence on God’s provision each day. Central to the prayer is forgiveness: ‘forgive us our sins for we ourselves forgive everyone in debt to us,’ reminding us that mercy received must flow outward. Finally, it seeks protection: ‘do not subject us to the final test,’ entrusting our weakness to God’s strength.
The key teaching here is that prayer is not a ritual of elaborate words but a heartfelt conversation with our loving Father. It teaches us to approach God with humility, seeking His kingdom above all, embracing forgiveness, and relying on His grace. In a world filled with distractions, this Gospel calls us to pause, pray, and prioritize our spiritual life.
Let this prayer renew your devotion today. As you recite it, feel the warmth of God’s embrace, encouraging you to live in forgiveness and faith. May it draw you deeper into His presence, fostering a life of prayerful surrender.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father, teach us to pray as Your Son taught, with pure hearts and unwavering trust. Help us to hallow Your name in all we do. Amen. 🕊️
