Today’s Gospel Luke 16:9-15

Jesus said to his disciples:
“I tell you, make friends for yourselves with dishonest wealth,
so that when it fails, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.
The person who is trustworthy in very small matters
is also trustworthy in great ones;
and the person who is dishonest in very small matters
is also dishonest in great ones.
If, therefore, you are not trustworthy with dishonest wealth,
who will trust you with true wealth?
If you are not trustworthy with what belongs to another,
who will give you what is yours?
No servant can serve two masters.
He will either hate one and love the other,
or be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and mammon.”

The Pharisees, who loved money,
heard all these things and sneered at him.
And he said to them,
“You justify yourselves in the sight of others,
but God knows your hearts;
for what is of human esteem is an abomination in the sight of God.”

Today’s Gospel Reflection

Today’s Gospel from Luke 16:9-15 invites us into a profound reflection on stewardship, trust, and true allegiance.

Jesus speaks to his disciples about using ‘dishonest wealth’—our earthly possessions and money—to build relationships that lead to eternal welcome. He emphasizes that faithfulness in small things mirrors faithfulness in great ones.

If we cannot be trusted with temporary riches, how can we be entrusted with true spiritual wealth?

And if we mismanage what belongs to others, who will give us our own eternal inheritance? The core message culminates in a stark truth: No one can serve two masters.

We cannot divide our loyalty between God and mammon, the spirit of materialism. We must choose devotion to one, and in doing so, align our hearts with the divine.

The Pharisees, enamored with wealth, sneered at Jesus, but he rebuked them gently yet firmly: They justified themselves before people, but God sees the heart.

What humans esteem highly can be an abomination to God if it draws us from Him. This teaching calls us to examine our priorities. Are we using our resources to foster love, generosity, and justice, or are they chaining us to fleeting pursuits? In a world that often equates success with accumulation, Jesus reminds us that true riches lie in heavenly dwellings, earned through faithful service.

Let this Gospel encourage you to live with integrity in the little things, to choose God over gain, and to let your heart be known fully to Him. May it inspire a deeper commitment to what endures.

Take a moment now to pray: Lord, help me to use all that I have for Your glory, and to serve You alone with a pure heart. Amen. 🙏 #GospelOfToday #CatholicFaith #ChristianTeaching
