Gospel Of The Day – 28th October, 2025

Today’s Gospel Luke 6:12-16

Jesus went up to the mountain to pray,
and he spent the night in prayer to God.
When day came, he called his disciples to himself,
and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles:
Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew,
James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew,
Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus,
Simon who was called a Zealot,
and Judas the son of James,
and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Today’s Gospel Reflection

As we reflect on today’s Gospel from Luke 6:12-16, we witness a profound moment of divine communion and purpose. Jesus, in His humanity and divinity, ascends the mountain to spend the entire night in prayer to the Father. This act of intimate dialogue underscores the importance of prayer in discerning God’s will, especially for momentous decisions. Emerging at dawn, refreshed and guided, He calls His disciples and selects twelve to be His Apostles, naming them as the bedrock of His mission.

Among them is Simon, renamed Peter, the rock upon which the Church would be built; his brother Andrew; the sons of Zebedee, James and John; faithful Philip and Bartholomew; the tax collector Matthew, transformed by grace; doubting yet devoted Thomas; James son of Alphaeus; the zealous Simon; Judas son of James; and tragically, Judas Iscariot, who would betray Him. This diverse group, ordinary men from varied backgrounds, becomes extraordinary through Christ’s call.

The key teaching here invites us to recognize that God chooses each of us, not for our perfection, but for His purposes. Like the Apostles, we are called from our everyday lives to participate in God’s kingdom. Prayer is our anchor, aligning our hearts with His. In a world of noise and distraction, let us emulate Jesus by seeking solitary prayer, trusting that God equips those He calls.

This Gospel encourages us to embrace our vocations with joy and fidelity, knowing the Holy Spirit empowers us. Take a moment today to pray: Lord, reveal Your will for me as You did for Your Apostles. Guide my steps and strengthen my faith. Amen. 🙏
