Gospel Of The Day – 14th October, 2025

Today’s Gospel Luke 11:37-41

After Jesus had spoken,
a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home.
He entered and reclined at table to eat.
The Pharisee was amazed to see
that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal.
The Lord said to him, “Oh you Pharisees!
Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish,
inside you are filled with plunder and evil.
You fools!
Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside?
But as to what is within, give alms,
and behold, everything will be clean for you.”

Today’s Gospel Reflection

Today’s Gospel from Luke 11:37-41 invites us into a moment at a Pharisee’s table, where Jesus teaches a timeless lesson on inner purity. A Pharisee, surprised that Jesus skips the ritual handwashing before the meal, receives a direct rebuke.

Jesus points out the hypocrisy: Pharisees meticulously clean the outside of cups and dishes while neglecting the greed and wickedness within their hearts. He calls them fools, reminding them that the Creator who made the exterior also formed the interior. True cleanliness, Jesus explains, comes not from external rituals alone, but from acts of charity and generosity from the heart. By giving alms, everything becomes clean.

This passage challenges us to examine our own lives. In a world obsessed with appearances, Jesus urges us to cultivate inner holiness. The key teaching here is that God sees the heart; our actions should reflect genuine love and justice, not just superficial piety.

Let this Gospel encourage you to perform small acts of kindness today, purifying your soul through service to others. As we reflect on these words, may they inspire a deeper devotion to living out our faith authentically.

Take a moment to pray: Lord, cleanse my heart and guide my actions to reflect Your love. Amen. 🙏
