Gospel Of The Day – 14th November, 2025

Today’s Gospel Luke 17:26-37

Jesus said to his disciples:
“As it was in the days of Noah,
so it will be in the days of the Son of Man;
they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage up to the day
that Noah entered the ark,
and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot:
they were eating, drinking, buying,
selling, planting, building;
on the day when Lot left Sodom,
fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all.
So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed.
On that day, someone who is on the housetop
and whose belongings are in the house
must not go down to get them,
and likewise one in the field
must not return to what was left behind.
Remember the wife of Lot.
Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it,
but whoever loses it will save it.
I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed;
one will be taken, the other left.
And there will be two women grinding meal together;
one will be taken, the other left.”
They said to him in reply, “Where, Lord?”
He said to them, “Where the body is,
there also the vultures will gather.”

Today’s Gospel Reflection

Today’s Gospel from Luke 17:26-37 invites us to reflect on the unpredictability of God’s judgment and the importance of spiritual readiness. Jesus draws parallels to the days of Noah and Lot, times when people were absorbed in everyday activities, unaware of the impending catastrophe. Just as the flood destroyed the world in Noah’s time and fire rained down on Sodom, so will the coming of the Son of Man catch many off guard.

The key teaching here is clear: do not cling to material possessions or worldly comforts when the moment of revelation arrives. Jesus advises that if you are on the housetop, do not go down to retrieve belongings; if in the field, do not turn back. He reminds us of Lot’s wife, who looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt, symbolizing the peril of attachment to the past.

In a world full of distractions, this Gospel calls us to prioritize our faith. Whoever seeks to preserve their life will lose it, but whoever loses it for Christ’s sake will save it. The vivid image of two in one bed or two women grinding meal, one taken and one left, underscores that salvation is personal and immediate. Where the body is, there the vultures will gather, a stark reminder of inevitable judgment.

Let this encourage us to live intentionally, fostering a deep relationship with God each day. Be watchful, detach from what holds you back, and embrace the freedom of faith. As we ponder these words, may they stir our hearts toward greater devotion.

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, help us to be ready for Your coming. Grant us the grace to let go of worldly attachments and to follow You wholeheartedly. Amen. 🙏
