Jesus Preaching

Gospel Of The Day – 1st November, 2025

Today’s Gospel Matthew 5:1-12a

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain,
and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him.
He began to teach them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you
and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.
Rejoice and be glad,
for your reward will be great in heaven.”

Today’s Gospel Reflection

In today’s Gospel from Matthew 5:1-12a, we encounter Jesus ascending the mountain, reminiscent of Moses receiving the Law, to deliver his revolutionary teaching: the Beatitudes. Surrounded by his disciples and the crowds, he proclaims blessings on those the world often overlooks. The poor in spirit find the Kingdom of heaven theirs. Those who mourn receive divine comfort. The meek inherit the earth. Hungering for righteousness brings satisfaction. Mercy given returns as mercy received. The pure of heart glimpse God. Peacemakers earn the title of God’s children. Even persecution for righteousness promises heavenly reward, urging us to rejoice.

This profound sermon flips worldly values upside down, revealing God’s heart for the humble and just. It calls us to embody these virtues in daily life, fostering a community of compassion and peace. As we reflect on these words, may they inspire us to live with open hearts, trusting in God’s promises.

Takeaway: Embrace the Beatitudes as a roadmap to holiness; in weakness, we find strength, and in service, eternal joy.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, help us live the Beatitudes with courage and love. Grant us the grace to be poor in spirit, merciful, and peacemakers in your world. Amen. 🙏
