Gospel Of The Day – 30th October, 2025

Today’s Gospel Luke 13:31-35

Some Pharisees came to Jesus and said,
“Go away, leave this area because Herod wants to kill you.”
He replied, “Go and tell that fox,
‘Behold, I cast out demons and I perform healings today and tomorrow,
and on the third day I accomplish my purpose.
Yet I must continue on my way today, tomorrow, and the following day,
for it is impossible that a prophet should die
outside of Jerusalem.’

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,
how many times I yearned to gather your children together
as a hen gathers her brood under her wings,
but you were unwilling!
Behold, your house will be abandoned.
But I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say,
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.”

Today’s Gospel Reflection

Today’s Gospel from Luke 13:31-35 offers a profound glimpse into Jesus’ resolve and heartache. Pharisees warn Him of Herod’s threat, but Jesus dismisses the fear, calling Herod a fox. He declares His purpose: casting out demons, healing, and accomplishing His mission over the next days. No prophet perishes outside Jerusalem, He says, underscoring the city’s tragic history of rejecting God’s messengers.

Then comes the poignant lament: ‘Jerusalem, Jerusalem…’ Jesus expresses His deep yearning to protect His people like a mother hen sheltering her chicks. Yet, their unwillingness breaks His heart, foretelling abandonment until they welcome Him as the Messiah.

This passage teaches us about God’s unwavering love amid rejection. Jesus presses on despite danger, modeling courage rooted in divine purpose. It invites reflection: How often do we resist God’s gathering embrace? In our busy lives, do we allow Him to draw us close?

Let this Gospel encourage you to embrace Jesus’ protection. His mission culminates in the cross, offering salvation to all who accept it. May we say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord,’ opening our hearts to His love. 🙏

Take a moment now to pray: Lord Jesus, gather us under Your wings. Help us welcome You fully into our lives. Amen.
