Saint Of The Day – 28th October

Saints Simon and Jude

Saints Simon and Jude were two of Jesus’ twelve apostles, living in the 1st century AD. Simon, known as the Zealot, may have belonged to a group advocating for Jewish independence before following Christ. Jude, also called Thaddaeus, is traditionally considered the author of the New Testament Epistle of Jude.

Little is known about their early lives, but after Jesus’ ascension, they are said to have preached the Gospel together in regions like Persia and Armenia. They faced persecution and were ultimately martyred around 65 AD, possibly by being beaten or axed to death for their faith.

Though no specific miracles are recorded in Scripture, tradition attributes healings and conversions to their intercession. They are remembered for their dedication to evangelization and Jude especially as the patron of impossible causes, offering hope to those in despair.

In today’s fast-paced world, where doubt and division abound, Saints Simon and Jude teach us the power of steadfast faith and unity in mission. Like them, we can transform personal zeal into service for others, tackling modern challenges such as isolation or moral confusion by building community and praying fervently.

Their story encourages us to step out boldly, sharing God’s love even when it seems impossible.

How will you emulate their courage today?

Let us pray: Saints Simon and Jude, pray for us to grow in faith and boldness. Amen.
