Gospel Of The day – 18th October 2025

Today’s Gospel Luke 10:1-9

The Lord Jesus appointed seventy-two disciples
whom he sent ahead of him in pairs
to every town and place he intended to visit.
He said to them,
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few;
so ask the master of the harvest
to send out laborers for his harvest.
Go on your way;
behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.
Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals;
and greet no one along the way.
Into whatever house you enter,
first say, ‘Peace to this household.’
If a peaceful person lives there,
your peace will rest on him;
but if not, it will return to you.
Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you,
for the laborer deserves payment.
Do not move about from one house to another.
Whatever town you enter and they welcome you,
eat what is set before you,
cure the sick in it and say to them,
‘The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.'”

Today’s Gospel Refection

In Luke 10:1-9, we witness Jesus commissioning seventy-two disciples, sending them ahead in pairs to prepare the towns for his arrival.

This passage reveals the urgency of God’s mission. Jesus declares, ‘The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few,’ highlighting the vast spiritual need in the world and our call to pray for more workers. He instructs them to travel light, without provisions, symbolizing complete reliance on God’s providence.

Like lambs among wolves, they face dangers yet are empowered by divine protection. Upon entering a home, they offer peace, which rests only where welcomed, teaching us about receptive hearts. They are to stay put, accept hospitality, and proclaim, ‘The Kingdom of God is at hand,’ while healing the sick.

This Gospel invites us to embrace mission in our daily lives. The key teaching is trust in God’s abundance amid scarcity, bold witness despite risks, and the power of peace and healing to draw others to Christ.

As modern disciples, let us step out in faith, sharing the Good News with simplicity and joy. May this inspire us to labor in the harvest, knowing the Lord goes before us. Let us pray: Lord, send laborers into your harvest and fill us with your peace to proclaim your Kingdom.
