Gospel Of The Day – 7th October, 2025

Gospel 7th October, 2025 – Luke 10:38-42

Jesus entered a village
where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak.
Martha, burdened with much serving, came to him and said,
“Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me.”
The Lord said to her in reply,
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.
There is need of only one thing.
Mary has chosen the better part
and it will not be taken from her.”

Today’s Gospel Reflection

As we reflect on the Gospel of Luke 10:38-42, we see Jesus visiting the home of Martha and Mary. Martha, ever the diligent host, busies herself with preparations and serving, while Mary sits at Jesus’ feet, absorbing His teachings.

Frustrated, Martha appeals to the Lord, asking why He doesn’t urge Mary to help. Gently, Jesus responds, ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, and it will not be taken from her.’ This passage speaks to the heart of Christian living, highlighting the balance between action and contemplation.

In our fast-paced world, we often mirror Martha, caught up in tasks and responsibilities that leave little room for quiet communion with God. Yet Jesus teaches that true fulfillment comes from choosing the ‘better part’ – sitting at His feet, listening to His word, and nurturing our relationship with Him.

The key teaching here is the priority of spiritual nourishment over mere busyness. Service is vital, but it must flow from a place of deep connection with Christ. Mary models this devotion, recognizing that time with the Lord is essential and irreplaceable. Let this Gospel encourage us to pause amid our daily duties, to carve out moments for prayer and reflection. In doing so, we allow God’s peace to dispel our anxieties and guide our actions.

May we all strive to emulate Mary, ensuring that our service to others is rooted in love for the Lord.

Take a moment today to sit quietly with Jesus, letting His words renew your spirit. 🙏

Let us pray: Lord, help us to choose the better part each day, drawing closer to You amid life’s demands. Amen.
